Halloween Games
Fun stuff to do for halloween including bobbing for apples, musical pictures, Jack-o-Lantern drawing contest, and more ideas for games to play.
Bobbing for Apples
Float apples in a large wash tub filled with water. The object of this game is to grab one of the apples and remove it from the water using only your mouth. Your hands must be kept behind your back. Be prepared to get wet.
For young children leave the stems in the apples; for older kids remove the stems.
Pass the Orange
Line up in teams.
The first person places an orange under his chin.
They must then pass the orange to the next person in line.
They must then try to grab the orange using only their chins.
If the orange drops, they must start over at the beginning.
If the person touches the orange with their hands, they would just put it back under their chin and continue on.
The first team to get the orange all the way to the last person is the winner.

Halloween Word Scramble
Give each person a pencil and paper with the word "Halloween" written at the top.
They must then write down as many words as they can think of that can be made using the letters contained in the word "halloween".
The person who can think of the most words wins a prize.
Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin.
Cut out a large pumpkin face from orange construction paper.
Draw in the eyes and the mouth in black.
Cut out as many different nose shapes as the number of kids playing; write a different number on the back of each nose.
Also cut out small strips of paper and write the numbers on these as well
Hang the pumpkin face on the wall.
Blindfold the players and give them a numbered nose. Pin the corresponding number which you printed on the small strip of paper (these numbers will keep track of who's nose is whose).
Turn the player around three times and have each player pin the nose on the pumpkin.
The player who pins there nose closest to where the nose should be wins a prize.
Jack-o-Lantern Drawing
Give each child a piece of orange construction paper and a pencil. Have them draw a picture of a jack-o-lantern. The only catch is that they must do the drawing with a blindfold on.
The child who's picture looks the most like a resonable facsimile of a jack-o-lantern would win a prize.
This game can have hilarious results!
Pumpkin Bowling
Fill four 2-liter plastic pop bottles about 1/8 to 1/4 full of water, add orange food coloring (or red and yellow food coloring if you can't find orange).
Set up the pop bottles as you would bowling pins.
Use a small pumpkin as the bowling ball.
Players try to knock over as many bottles as they can; points are awarded on each roll.
The person who gets the best score wins a prize.
Pumpkin Races
Each child gets a pumpkin to place on their head (the size of the pumpkin would depend on the size of the child).
Make each child stand behind the "start" line. Have a person say "Ready", "Set", "GO".
The first one to cross the "finish" line wins a prize.
If the pumpkin falls off their head or if they grab the pumpkin with their hands, they are disqualified.
Musical Pictures
Have kids draw pictures of pumpkins, ghosts, witches, black cats, bats, etc. on black or orange construction paper. Tape the pictures to the floor using one less picture than kids.
Play halloween music. When the music stops the one who's not standing on a picture is out. No shoving allowed (means instant disqualification).
The child who's the last one would win a prize.
Bubble Magic
Using a large bucket as a Cauldron, fill it with water and add dishwashing detergent.(This is the magic potion).
Now you tell one child to be the "Wand Wizard". This child picks up his magic wand (actually a straw) and begins to blow into the mixture.
Next, you tell the "Color Wizard", to begin dropping drops of food coloring over top of the bubbles.
The "paper wizard" then takes a piece of paper and gently lays it over the bubbles, tapping gently. The magic works! The paper is covered with a color array of bubble prints.
Kids can take turns being different "wizards" each time.
What's nice is that ALL age groups love this and the results are different everytime you do it.
